Computers and Cars

Cars today rely more and more on computers to function. Whether it be simply for power windows or the more advanced such as a GPS system.
There has never been a car that did not function without a computer however cars in the past did not use as many computers as cars today use. The engine and parts under the hood power the car, but its the microprocessors that tell it what to do and that has always been the case. Cars in the past had windows that had to be manually rolled down and locks that had to manually be locked with a key. Cars of the past did not have GPS systems and On star systems and radios that you could talk to. These are all systems that we now see in new cars but, cannot function with out the use of computers.
I find it amazing that you can lock your keys in your car by mistake and all you have to do is have Onstar unlock your car by making a phone call. Or instead of taking your hands of the wheel to change the radio station you can just talk to it and tell it what station you want and it will automatically change to that station. The Lexus now has a system where the car can parallel park for you which is amazing because nowadays when taking drivers ed and your driving hours they don’t bother teaching you to parallel park.
The car has come a long way from when it was first invented however the use of computers has always played a major role. I can only imagine what the cars of the future will be able to do. I believe that at some point they will create a car that can drive on its own. Time will only tell though.
